Tumbi Tyres & More is an RMS Authorised Restraint Fitting Station. Our child restraint fitters are trained and certified by Mobility Engineering and can help with any questions that you may have.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of the child restraints we see have been fitted incorrectly. Generally they are just not secured tightly enough for them to be effective during an accident. We also see many children who are using seats inappropriate for their size.

Here are some answers to our most frequently asked questions …

How much does it cost to have a child seat fitted?

The cost is only $75.00 per seat. When you have a child seat fitted by an Authorised Restraint Fitting Station you will receive an installation and inspection report as proof that your child seat has been fitted correctly.

Is it compulsory (law) that a child restraint must be fitted by a professional?

Short answer is NO. However, if you fit the seat yourself and it is not fitted correctly you can receive a fine from the police if it is checked for any reason and found to be incorrectly fitted. Some hospitals also require proof that a seat has been professionally fitted before you can bring your newborn home.

Can I remove the child seat after it has been professionally fitted?

You can remove the seat, however, the installation and inspection report is then invalid as the seat has been removed from where it was fitted. You would need to have the seat re-fitted by an authorised fitting station again, if you wish the seat to be certified safe again.

Our advice to help keep your children safe:

  • Have your child seat checked by an Authorised Fitting Station to ensure it has been fitted correctly
  • Child Restraints must have the Australian Standards Mark
  • Be wary of buying second hand child seats. You have no way of knowing whether they have been in an accident. We also cannot fit a seat that is over 10 years old.
  • Make sure that your child is in a seat appropriate for their age/weight/height.
